Where Ghana’s Waste Goes

A public-interest directory for Ghana

Don’t bin it.
Find where it goes.

Recycling information in Ghana is scattered, outdated and often written for industry. This guide turns it into one practical question: where can I take this?

Before you go

Three minutes now can save a wasted trip.

  1. 01
    Call first

Prices, accepted materials and opening hours can change without notice.

  2. 02
    Sort and dry

Separate plastics by type where possible. Empty, rinse and dry containers.

  3. 03
    Handle e-waste safely

Erase personal data. Do not puncture, burn or dismantle swollen batteries.

What the map reveals

Access is not evenly distributed.

Most public-facing options we could verify are clustered in Greater Accra. Large municipal plants may serve whole regions, but many do not publish household drop-off rules or buy-back prices.

Method

What counts as verified?

A facility is included when a public source identifies its operator, location and recycling activity. We prioritised operator websites, government and multilateral sources, then used specialist industry directories where primary information was unavailable.

Map listings supplied during the September 2026 reconciliation are included only where they identify a usable physical location or collection service. Unconfirmed entries are visibly marked “Call first”; duplicate names and head-office-only results are merged or excluded.

Three different things are shown

Important: Ghana has no single, complete, current public register covering all private recyclers, municipal plants, informal aggregators and drop-off points. “Mapped” means publicly verifiable, not exhaustive.

Nearest-place feature: location access is optional. Distance is calculated in your browser from your device coordinates and the directory’s mapped coordinates. Your location is not stored or sent to this site. Distances are straight-line estimates, so check the route before travelling.
